Work History: From 1958 to 1971, Mrs. Beckwith was a 7th and 8th grade English, French and speech teacher. She served as a 7th grade counselor from 1971 to 1978 and from 1979 to 2002, was an 8th-12th grade college counselor as well as a 9th-12th grade college magnet program administrator from 1995 to 2002. From 1999 to 2009, Mrs. Beckwith served as a computer instructor, a 7th and 9th-12th grade counselor as well as an 8th-12th grade summer school counselor.

Career Accomplishments: Mrs. Beckwith served as Chairman of the Guidance and Counseling Department for many years. She was commissioned to write a summer college program component for 8th graders for the World of Work Program for Orleans Parish Schools as well as to conduct ASVAB training in Orleans and other parishes in Louisiana. Mrs. Beckwith is a member of the Board of Trustees for Teachers Retirement System of Louisiana (TRSL) where she represents District 2 members. However, on December 31, 2011 she left the Board of TRSL after 14 years of service to devote more time with family and grandchildren. She leaves the Board knowing that it is in good hands. She has served on many local, state and national professional organizations' offices and committees and administered the Magnet School College Preparatory Program at Marion Abramson Senior High School for several years. She also taught writing skills for two semesters in the evening division at Southern University in New Orleans. Mrs. Beckwith worked the summer of 2006 in the Project PASS and ACCESS Programs at the University of New Orleans which are two projects of the Talent Search Program aimed at helping students with disabilities.
