ABOUT MARY ELIZABETH DERIG Mary Elizabeth Derig has had an extensive career as a Registered Nurse including work in post surgical care, and specialty areas of oncology, quality management and risk management. She is currently retired from the Swedish Medical Center after working there for 40 years. She served as Head Nurse involved with nursing unit management, clinical nursing and research as well as serving as a Patient Relations Consultant. She provided in-house training exercises and presented at workshops. Ms. Derig was devoted to providing the best possible nursing services at the Swedish Medical Center, having spent more than half her life there. She believes that being a nurse is one of her greatest accomplishments. Ms. Derig received her B.S. in Nursing from Seattle University in Washington State, in 1967. She has been a member of the Washington State Nurses Association and the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management. She currently resides in Shoreline, Washington, where she enjoys the outdoors, traveling, volunteering with the court system working with juvenile offenders. She plans to become involved in efforts related to healthcare system reform.
