Dr. Beckles' educational experience includes being an Adjunct Professor at New York Institute of Technology, Old Westbury, New York from 1974 to 1984, a Mathematics Instructor for CAPP (College accredited program for Police Officers), a Mathematics Instructor at the Port Washington Free Schools from 1973 to 1977 and an Admissions Counselor at Teachers College, Columbia University from 1978 to 1983. His educational experience (European and British Guyana) includes being a Pure Mathematics Teacher from 1962 to 1963 at the Upton House Comprehensive High School and Clapton Park Comprehensive High School with the Inner London Education Authority, London, England. He then became a Principal at Georgetown Academy in Guyana, South America, from 1963 to 1964, and served as a Pure Mathematics Instructor (European) at the Upton House Comprehensive High School, London, England from 1964 to 1966. Dr. Beckles was then an Education Advisor to Skandanaviska Bokfolaket, Tunnelgaten, Stockholm, Sweden from 1969 to 1971. He joined the Board of Education in New York City, serving as a special education teacher and mathematics specialist at I.S. 271 in Brooklyn, New York from 1984 to 1985, and was also a resource room/special education teacher at P.S. 13 in Brooklyn, New York from 1985 through 1993. He became a teacher trainer at Community School in District 19, Brooklyn, New York from 1993 to 1996 and is currently a Health Coordinator at I.S. 302 in Brooklyn which he has been since 1996. He has served on the Board and is a Chaplain of RICH (Reach Into Cultural Heights), Jamaica, New York, since 1998. |
