He was a volunteer at East Jefferson Hospital in Metairie and volunteered to teach 8th grade economics. Mr. O'Dwyer served as the Former Head of a city-wide program to enhance the outsides and insides of houses for the less fortunate in New Orleans - "Christmas in October" program.

He is a five-time winner of the Pan-American Life Education Professor in the Junior Achievement Program. Mr. O'Dwyer wishes to dedicate this honor to his father, Rudolph T. O'Dwyer, Jr. and his mother, Juanita Pfister O'Dwyer, without whose guidance, professionalism and hard work he would not be the professional he is today. Mr. O'Dwyer, Jr. taught his five children that a penny earned is of far more value than a dollar found. Mrs. O'Dwyer was always adamant that the truth always be told no matter what the circumstances. Through this upbringing, Mr. O'Dwyer III learned a true respect for his fellow man while simultaneously becoming a man for others.
