Dr. O'Connell previously worked as a Budget Analyst, Accounts Payable Specialist, Voluntary Accountant and a Managed Care Data Analyst at Mt. Clemens General Hospital from 1987 to 1998. She then served as an Information Analyst and Project Coordinator from 1998 to 2002 at Health Alliance Plan in Detroit. From 2002 to 2004, Dr. O'Connell served as the Managed Care Plan Manager in Business Operations at Harper Hospital, Detroit. She has been with the Detroit Medical Center since 2002 where she has progressed through increasing levels of responsibility and decision-making. |

Of her many career accomplishments Dr. O'Connell is very proud of having taught on an Indian Reservation in South Dakota, while living without running water and electricity for eight years. She taught first graders how to read and write in a one-room school house and consequently was invited back to their first 100% graduating class on the Sioux Reservation. She also led the DMC Corporate Diversity Council and as Chair, increased membership by 90%, and gained executive management recognition for her outstanding performance of taking the Diversity Council to a higher level. |
